| Direct
Deposit Frequently Asked Questions
Who is eligible for Direct
Deposit?
Any employee paid on a biweekly
basis may elect to have their payments directly deposited by completing
a Direct Deposit Authorization Form. The form may be obtained at
the Payroll website (http://payroll.rutgers.edu/forms/).
Can I fax the Direct Deposit
Verification Form to Payroll?
No. Payroll Services
requires the signed, original form. Don’t forget to include a
copy of a voided check if selecting a Checking account.
How long does this process
take?
You will have one week when you
receive both a check and an advice notice. Review the transit
routing number and account number. If these numbers are correct,
you should be deposited the next time you are paid. Call Payroll
AT 732-445-3057 immediately if the advice information is not correct.
Can I select any bank and how
many accounts may I select?
Your banking institution must be
a member of the Automatic Clearing House. You may elect one or
two accounts within one banking institution.
How do I make a change to
direct deposit?
Complete a new Direct Deposit
Verification Form to change either your transit routing or
account numbers. The next time you are paid, you will receive a
check and an advice notice. If the numbers on the advice notice
are correct, you should be deposited the next time you are paid.
How long does it take to
cancel direct deposit?
To cancel, you must complete
another Direct Deposit Authorization Form. Allow ten days to
cancel.
Because my checkbook was
stolen I just closed the account at my bank. Payday is in a few
days. What will happen to my money?
Contact Payroll Services at
732-445-3057 immediately. If possible, we will cancel your direct
deposit. If there is not enough time to stop the deposit, we will
suggest you contact your bank manager. She may be able to “hand
post” your deposit.
Sometimes I don’t work for
several months at a time. What will happen to my direct deposit
information?
If you have not been paid for
six months, your direct deposit information will be cleared. When
you get paid, you will receive a check. You may complete another
Direct Deposit Verification Form when you start working again.
